You have made a sizable investment into your area rugs. Here are some easy, basic steps for the care and protection of Area Rugs.
Rotation – To ensure even wear, your rug should be rotated once a year. Depending on the traffic the rotation may vary from six months to two years.
Vacuuming – Area rugs, like most carpeting should be vacuumed on a regular basis to remove dirt and restore life to the fibres. Be sure not to vacuum the fringe with your beater bar! Use the end of a vacuum hose from a canister vacuum.
Professional Cleaning – Like all carpets, your area rugs should be professionally cleaned on a regular basis. Frequency of cleaning is influenced by the amount of soiling, traffic, wear and environmental conditions. We do in plant cleaning of area carpets (and upholstery) and we offer a pick up and delivery service.
Spot & Spill Procedures – Make sure you safely and immediately clean up spots and spills before they set.
Basic Spot Removal Steps
Vacuum any loose dirt or dry soil away. For things such as mud or potting soil, allow soil to dry completely then vacuum thoroughly. Blot up wet spills with a clean colour fast cloth or white paper towel.
Prior to cleaning test spotting agent in a hidden area of the carpet for colour fastness.

Our cleaning process is designed to restore your area carpets as close to its original condition as possible and to protect it from future soiling and staining. We can clean all types of area carpets, even most delicate of area rugs.
- Pre-inspection – We will inspect your areas of concern as well as noting carpet construction and soiling conditions. We will also advise you of any possible permanent staining.
- Rug Dusting – We use a variety of techniques to “dust” the rugs from the front and back. Your carpet will be thoroughly vacuumed removing dry soil. Dry soil removal is one of the most important steps in cleaning.
- Preconditioning & Pre-treating Spots – We will apply a special carpet “pre-conditioner” to your area rug. This loosens the soil and spots on the carpet.
- Agitation – The pre-conditioner is then agitated through the carpet by means of a special grooming tool suited to the style of area rug, to further loosen the soil.
- Rinse, Extract and Sanitize – Once the soil has been loosened, we will clean your rugs using Hot Water Extraction. We will thoroughly flush your carpet to remove the soil and water so that the carpet is not left over wet. This step also sanitizes the carpet.
- Post Spot Treatment – If any difficult spots remain we will attempt to remove them with our specialty spot cleaning solutions and procedures.
- Carpet Protection – At this point, we apply the carpet protector. Reapplying the carpet protector will help you to keep your area rugs clean longer, resist stains and your rug will last longer, saving you money.
- Speed Dry – We know you want to your rugs dry and back home as soon as possible. So once the soil is rinsed away, the rug is dried flat or hung to dry in a controlled environment.
- Post Grooming – The carpet is groomed to promote faster drying and to set the pile in place.
- Post Cleaning Inspection – We will inspect the cleaning results to insure that everything looks its best. If any touch ups are needed we will do them.
